Paul Gill can be a quiet and unassuming individual when you may first meet him, but soon after speaking with Paul, you will find he is a modern-day mechanical wizard.
Paul began his racing career by working hard as a welder in a wood stove shop in Randolph, MA. In 1988, he opened his own fabricating business, Gill Metal Fab, in Whitman MA. When time and finances allowed he began to race a bracket Camaro named Already Gone. Known for doing things his own way, Paul also ran the Camaro in Super Comp, a class dominated by dragsters.
Paul’s desire to build and create was limited by his Camaro, so around 1997 Paul purchased the Miner Brothers Top Alcohol funny car and soon learned about the many challenges he would face as the owner, driver, builder, and crew chief. Paul persevered and developed his own engine combination that was unique, and consistent with doing things his own way. Soon Paul Gill was revered as a premier tuner and racer battling with the legends of Manzo and Newbury. Never since the creation of the Top Alcohol Class had there been a single individual who challenged these legends as Paul did.
Paul’s involvement in Top Alcohol Funny Car racing also showed him the need to better storage cabinets than what was currently available in race trailers. That need inspired Paul to form Moduline Cabinets in Brockton, MA in 2000. Moduline has since developed into a multi-million-dollar company that supplies cabinets, tool storage, and custom metal fabrication for motorsports, homeowners, and the U.S. military.
Paul’s accomplishments include 10 NHRA National event finals, 2 NHRA National Event victories at the 1999 Keystone Nationals, and the 2005 NHRA Summer Nationals. Paul dedicated the Summer Nationals win to his son Paul Jr, who had passed away from leukemia two weeks earlier. Paul ran quicker and faster every round, dominating the event.
Paul also has 16 NHRA Divisional finals and five Divisional victories as a driver. As a tuner Paul’s creativity is unmatched. In 2007 at the Gatornationals Paul was one of the first TAFC tuners and drivers to break into the 5.40s.
In 2012 Paul transitioned his son Matt into the driver’s seat of the Moduline Funny Car and has since tuned and coached Matt to numerous NHRA Divisional and Regional wins including the NHRA Region 1 Championship in 2015.
The Orientals Hot Rod Club congratulates Paul Gill on his induction into the New England Hot Rod Hall of Fame.
